Helping your child become a stronger, more joyful reader

Coaching, empathy, tools, and clarity for parents who want to understand how reading develops and how to help with confidence at home.

We see you.

If you have ever looked at your child’s reading report and felt confused, anxious, or unsure where to start, you are not alone.

Most parents were never taught how reading develops or what to do when progress stalls, yet you are the person who knows your child best—the one who sees the small wins, the daily struggles, and the quiet moments of frustration that often go unseen in school.

The truth is, every child’s reading journey is different. Some move fluidly from sound to word to story. Others need more structure, more time, or more targeted support. The Reading Symphony exists to guide families through that process with compassion and precision.

Here’s how we turn that understanding into action.

Our approach

Knowing how to help changes everything

When you work with The Reading Symphony, you gain more than strategies. You gain understanding. We help you make sense of your child’s assessment data, uncover the specific skills that need strengthening, and build simple home routines that align with what actually works in the brain.

You’ll learn what your child needs, why it matters, and how to respond with confidence.

Our Services

Parent Coaching

Through personalized coaching sessions, we teach you how to support reading at home using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate practices. You will learn how to reinforce foundational skills, strengthen fluency and vocabulary, and nurture comprehension through meaningful conversation and shared reading.

Reading Assessment Support

Understand what your child’s test scores and progress monitoring data really mean. We help you interpret assessments like DIBELS, STAR, i-Ready, Acadience, MAP Growth, and classroom measures so you can make informed decisions and ask the right questions at school.

Advocacy Support

When your child struggles, advocacy can feel intimidating. We provide tools, language, and research-backed scripts that empower you to communicate effectively with teachers, reading specialists, and administrators. Together, we make sure your child’s needs are seen, understood, and addressed.

WHAT FAMILIES ARE SAYING

When parents gain understanding, children gain confidence. Here’s what families are saying about their experience working with Katie.

Katie has extensive but also accessible knowledge that she communicated seamlessly to me as a parent without a background in reading science. Her plan was highly manageable to execute and also highly impactful for my son. He and I both felt empowered with our home practice, and he looked forward to it every night! Her ability to translate the reports from school and match my son’s scores on screening measures with tangible projections that helped deepen my understanding of literacy development was really valuable to me as a parent going through this for the first time with my oldest child. I am so grateful that she is offering these services that fill a void between school and home, and cannot recommend highly enough!

- Haley Anderson, Parent

As a pediatric neuropsychologist, I’m no stranger to educational assessments and feedback, but when I received my own daughter’s screening scores and the school’s recommendations, I felt unexpectedly lost and confused, not to mention worried about my daughter. The information was overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure what steps to take next or how best to advocate for my daughter.

Katie was an absolute game-changer. She took the time to walk me through the feedback from the school, explaining what the scores meant in clear, accessible language. Katie also helped me understand not only the school’s planned interventions, but also how my daughter might respond to them and what steps to take based on different outcomes. She also provided thoughtful, practical suggestions for simple interventions we could do at home to support my daughter’s learning.

Thanks to Katie, I felt truly empowered and relieved. I left our consultation with a clear head, confident in my ability to advocate for my daughter and support her progress. Even with my professional background, I was surprised by how lost I felt but Katie’s expertise and compassion made all the difference. I can’t recommend her highly enough to any parent navigating the complexities of reading assessments and school interventions.
